1st Regiment, Georgia Infantry (Ramsey's) (Confederate)
Brief History[edit | edit source]
The 1st Regiment, Georgia Infantry (Ramsey's) was formed at Macon, Georgia, in April, 1861. The men were raised in the towns and cities of Newnan, Perry, Augusta, Sandersville, Atlanta, Bainbridge, Quitman, Dahlonega, and Columbus. This regiment mustered out of service in Macon. However, many of the men joined the 12th Georgia Artillery Battalion and other Georgia commands
Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]
Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.
