24th Battalion, Tennessee Sharpshooters (Maney's)
Brief History[edit | edit source]
The 24th Battalion, Tennessee Sharpshooters (Maney's) was formed in May, 1863, with three companies. The battalion was included in the surrender on April 26, 1865.
Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]
Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.
- Company A - Captain Frank Maney (to major), Hugh M. McAdoo - Formerly Maney's Light Artillery, also called Humphreys Light Artillery. Men from Humphreys County.
- Company B - Captain Robertson Garrett - Men from Humphreys County.
- Company C - Captain John M. McAdoo - Men from Humphreys County.
Information regarding these companies is from Tennessee in the Civil War, (accessed 29 Dec 2011).
