Existing civil registration is likely kept in local municipality and community offices. Older civil registration are likely held by the Central State Archives of Albania in Tiranë.[2]

Historical Background[edit | edit source]

Ottoman population registers (see the Albania Census page to learn more) functioned in the role of civil registration until 1912. Civil registration began in 1929.

Civil registration began in 1929 and continues to the present. However, birth and marriage registration is only available from 1929 to 1950.
