Description[edit | edit source]
The County named is debated, some believing it was the name of an Indian chief, others think it was named for Allen Magee, an early historic trader. The County has Waukon as its seat and the County was created 1847. The County is located in the northeast area of the state. [1]

Parent County[edit | edit source]
1847 - Allamakee County was created 20 February 1847, from unorganized territory. The county was attached to Clayton County prior to organization on 6 March 1849.
