Description[edit | edit source]
The County was named for the Autauga (aka, Tawasa) Indians that lived there, primarily in a village named Atagi (meaning "pure water") situated on the banks of a creek by the same name (called "Pearl Water Creek" by settlers). Autaugas were members of the Alibamu tribe. The County is located in the south-central area of the state. The County is located in the center area of the state.[2]
