Record My Story Room
The Colorado Springs North Family History Discovery Center's Record My Story Room is available for use to record your family's stories. The space is designed with audio and video technology. The private and comfortable furnishings provide a quiet, secluded area suited for recording personal histories.
The Record My Story Room is divided into two sections: The Video Room and the Story Booth.
Reservations for the Video Room or the Story Booth are made by checking their respective calendars for available times:

Video Room Features

All of our digital audio and video equipment is designed to make recording oral histories and interviews easy. A video camera and a laptop web cam are available within the Video Room. Our qualified staff will provide all technical support for your recording session. Patrons must bring an SD card (at least 4GB) for the video camera. If a patron chooses to record on the laptop web cam, please bring a thumb drive. These digital storage devices are not for sale at the Family History Discovery Center.

Suggested options for recording histories:
    1. One person can record themselves reading or verbalizing their memories or histories.
    2. Two or more people can record a conversation or share memories with each other.
    3. One person can interview one or more others while recording their responses.

While designed for one or two, we can accommodate up to 5 people.


Tips for a successful session
The Video Room and the Story Booth are available for half hour sessions. You may reserve the Story Room for as many half hour sessions as you think you'll need to record your history/memoirs.

Follow these five steps as you prepare for your session:

Step 1 – Record your appointment in your calendar
Step 2 – Tell other participants about the reservation
Step 3 - Plan your story or interview (see links below for tips)
Step 4 – Get thumb drive or SD card (at least 4GB) to store the video file

The Video Room is available during normal operating hours.

For online reservations, we will need 24 hours advance notice. If the time you request is available you will be notified by a phone or email confirmation. If the time is not available you will receive an email or phone call to help you select another time that is available.

The Story Booth is a customized iPad that facilitates you to create a "video time capsule" regarding four stages of your life. You are asked to answer 10-14 questions based on the 5000 Days Project Video, during a video interview.
