History[edit | edit source]

The Creek War began as a civil war between the Creeks. Soon after, the United States became involved eventually defeating the Creeks. The loss resulted in the Creeks having to cede 23 million acres of land to the United States.[2] This conflict involved rights to lands in Southern Alabama and Georgia. The Creek defeat was followed by approximately twenty years of unsuccessful negotiations which culminated in the forced removal of the Creek Indians to the Indian Territory in what is now Oklahoma.
