Instructions[edit | edit source]

Step 1: Find County and Parish in Task List[edit | edit source]

1. On the Task List above, choose a county to work on, choosing PART 5 – TGEN to ensure the information is being recorded on the correct project.
2. Choose a parish page (links are embedded in the Parish name).

3. Click on the Talk tab at the top left of the page.

4. We will be updating the dates of the TheGenealogist (TGEN) records which are currently available for each parish.
We will only be updating the NEW parish tables on the Talk page.
The TGEN code we will be changing is located here:

NOTE: Some counties may only have one or two lines in the code. For example:

5. Go to Parish Registers Online and click on your county located on the left side of the page. Scroll down to find your parish. The parish may be listed multiple times for birth, marriage, death, and banns years. For example:

6. Go back to the code and change the years in the code according to what is found on the website.
For baptisms change these years:

For marriages change these years:

For burials change these years:

5. Put "Changing TGEN years" in the Summary box and then click "Save page."

Here is an example:

The parish of Felmersham has baptisms 1602-1812, marriages 1603-1812, and burials 1602-1812. This is what the code will look like:
  |-
  | bgcolor="#ffffcc" | '''TGEN'''
  | bgcolor="#ffcccc" | [https://www.thegenealogist.com/parish-records/ '''1602-1812''']
  | bgcolor="#ffcccc" | <br>
  | bgcolor="#ccffcc" | [https://www.thegenealogist.com/parish-records/ '''1603-1812''']
  | bgcolor="#ccffcc" | <br>
  | bgcolor="#ccffff" | [https://www.thegenealogist.com/parish-records/ '''1602-1812''']
  | bgcolor="#ccffff" | <br>

If Not Found in List[edit | edit source]

Option 1: If the parish is missing baptisms, marriages, or burials then put a <br> on the line instead of the brackets.

For example:
The parish of Bedford St Mary only has marriages 1802-1802 (there are no baptisms or burials). This is what the code will look like:
  |-
  | bgcolor="#ffffcc" | '''TGEN'''
  | bgcolor="#ffcccc" | <br>
  | bgcolor="#ffcccc" | <br>
  | bgcolor="#ccffcc" | [https://www.thegenealogist.com/parish-records/ '''1802-1802''']
  | bgcolor="#ccffcc" | <br>
  | bgcolor="#ccffff" | <br>
  | bgcolor="#ccffff" | <br>

Option 2: If the parish is not found at all in the list, delete it from the table. There are 2 places to delete in the table:

Location 1: near the beginning of the code:
Tgen 8.png

Location 2: near the end of the code:
Tgen 9.png

NOTE: If you are unsure what to delete, put a note in the comments column of the spreadsheet and we will delete it for you.
