Known Issues[edit | edit source]

NOTE: The census records have the imprinted year of 1982; however the census was conducted in March of 1984.

NOTE: There is only a single NAME search field, as opposed to given name and surname search fields.

NOTE: For a way to determine what digital records are likely to be found within a collection or how to find missing images elsewhere, see Article 56000, Using Film Notes in the Catalog to determine the content of a final browse point in Historical Records.

Question #1: There is some non-standard variations for the Birthplace entries in the indexed records. How can I determine the correct Birthplace?
Answer #1: Because of the format of the census page, under the Birthplace column, the census taker placed an “X” beside “In this town or village” or “In another town or village in Ghana” with a space to specify the town or village and the Region. In addition, there is a space to specify a birth country outside of Ghana. As a result, about 2/3 of the records were indexed with a Birthplace entry referring to “this town or village”, “another town or village”, or NULL. To best determine the Birthplace, you will have to view the image and/or view the appropriate Catalog Notes (see NOTE).
