What is in This Collection?[edit | edit source]

Thom's Directory was published by Alexander Thom from 1844 to 1849 with the title, Thom's Directory of Ireland. It was succeeded by the following publications:

  • Thom's Irish Almanac and Official Directory AKA Thom's Irish Almanac, (1850-1900)
  • Thom's official directory of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland AKA Thom's Official Directory (1901-1922)
  • Thom's official directory of Ireland (1923-1930)
  • Thom's directory of Ireland (1931-1959)
  • Thom's Dublin Street Directory (1960-2013)
  • Thom's Commercial Directory (1960-2013)

The almanac consists of astronomical tables; government statutes; information on British colonies; biographies of peers, baronets, knights, bishops, and judges; military officers; government statistics; college faculty; lists of attorneys and solicitors; lists of diocese and clergy; elected officials; Dublin city street directory; Dublin county street directory; merchants and tradesmen; and advertisments.

Whenever possible FamilySearch makes images and indexes available for all users. However, rights to view these data are limited by contract and subject to change. Because of this there may be limitations on where and how images and indexes are available or who can see them. Please be aware some collections consist only of partial information indexed from the records and do not contain any images.
