What is in This Collection?[edit | edit source]
This collection includes some of the forms used by the government to search census records between the years of 1841 and 1851. The purpose in searching the census records was to prove ages of citizens applying for Old Age Pensions. (They had to be at least 70 years old to receive the benefit.) Since civil registrations of births (birth certificates) were not required until 1864, it was necessary for the government to search the census records to validate claims. The searches were conducted by the government between 1908 and 1922.
This collection was originally captured by the National Archives of Ireland, and the index was created by findmypast.com.
