This collection includes church records from 1700 to 1970 from various denominations in North Carolina. Some of the church records come from the following:

  • Society of Friends. Rich Square Monthly Meeting (Rich Square, Northampton County)
  • Trinity Episcopal Church (Scotland Neck, Halifax County)
  • Christs Church (New Bern, Craven County)
  • Church of the Good Shepherd (Rocky Mount, Edgecombe and Nash counties)
  • St. David's Church (Creswell, Washington County)
  • Jonesboro Circuit Methodist Church (Sanford, Lee County)

How Do I Search This Collection?[edit | edit source]

Before searching this collection, it is helpful to know:

  • The name of the individual
  • The approximate place where the family lived
  • The church the family was affiliated

  2. Click Search to show possible matches

How Do I Analyze the Results?[edit | edit source]

Compare each result from your search with what you know to determine if there is a match. This may require viewing multiple records or images. Keep track of your research in a research log.

I Found Who I was Looking for, What Now?[edit | edit source]

  • Search for vital records such as birth, marriage, and death in the county and state records
  • Search local newspapers
  • Search for land and probate records
  • Search the family in census records

I Can’t Find the Person I’m Looking For, What Now?[edit | edit source]

  • If your ancestor does not have a common name, collect entries for every person who has the same surname. This list can help you find possible relatives
  • Try different spellings of your ancestor’s name
  • Remember that sometimes individuals went by nicknames or alternated between using first and middle names.
