Dutch School Tombos[edit | edit source]

Research use: Valuable in linking families.

Record type: Records of vital statistics of school children and graduates.

Time period: 1765 to 1779.

Contents: names of parents, children, age at date of baptism, date of school admission, date left school, date of marriage, date of departure from the village, occasionally date of death, primarily for Dutch school children and their parents.

Location: Sri Lanka National archives, Colombo.

Population coverage: Approximately 30% (primarily of Dutch colonists) in western and southern provinces.

Reliability: Good source of vital statistics for children and parents generally not duplicated by the parish registers. Useful for identification and linkage of families.[1]
