Tipton Missouri Family History Center

Our Family History Center serves an area for several central counties in Missouri surrounding the city of Tipton in Moniteau County.  Surrounding counties include: Morgan, Cooper, Cole, Benton, and Miller - and we can help sometimes with counties a little farther out.  We are open two days a week with computers, wireless internet access, and have consultants who can assist at other times as needed.

Address: 31469 Highway 5 S, Tipton MO 65081 - in the country, about 2 miles south of Tipton on Hwy 5; or about 13 miles north of Versailles on Hwy 5.

  • The southwest entrance as you come into the church parking lot is the easiest way to enter the Family History Center. All signs relating to the Family History Center are posted on the door.

Open Hours: March 17, 2020: Due to the temporary Church closings in effect, our Family History Center is CLOSED until further notice. However, assistance by phone is available - please call 573-377-4800 or 660-668-4509 if you need help or have questions. Holiday Schedule and Closings: We are often closed during the weeks of major holidays - Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Years, July 4th, etc.

We are occasionally closed unexpectedly because of inclement weather or illness, please call ahead to be sure we are open before driving any great distance.

We are also closed the first weekend in April and October for our worldwide General Conference.

  • Book Collection: -- We have several volumes of Missouri history and a good working relationship with Historical Societies in Moniteau, Morgan and other surrounding counties.

Databases and Software[edit | edit source]

  • Family History Center Portal This center has access to the Family History Center Portal page which gives free access in the center to many premium family history software and websites that generally charge for subscriptions. We can also show you how to access a variety of research databases and software online from your home or other locations.

  • 3 computers networked to 2 printers (1 color); and local wireless internet access for your laptop, phones, tablets, etc.

Staff Research Specialties[edit | edit source]

We have staff who can assist you from the very beginning with pedigree and family group sheets; those who can assist you with most types of on-line research; and those who can help you learn to use Personal Ancestral File (PAF) or other genealogy software, and how to use FamilySearch.org's FamilyTree and research functions effectively. All assistance is free (there is a charge for paper copies or for CD copies).

  • FamilySearch Research Wiki: What It Can Do For You!: A comprehensive video presentation explaining the Wiki, navigating it, and some especially useful pages. Case studies demonstrate using the Wiki for genealogical research. Editing and adding articles to the Wiki are covered.
