Historical Background / Introduction[edit | edit source]
About 30% of the people belong to the Free Wesleyan Church, which is the official state church, and the king is the head of it. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the next largest church; about 40% of all Tongans are members. Missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints first arrived in Tonga on 15 July 1891.
