Purpose[edit | edit source]

Update county cemetery pages where they exist and create county cemetery pages where they do not. This will make it easier for researchers to find cemetery records.

Part 1: Set up your sandbox[edit | edit source]

1. Select a county on the task list by putting your name in the name column.

2. Create a sandbox for this page.

3. Copy and paste the code below into the sandbox and click save.

4. Wherever you see the words COUNTY NAME in your sandbox, replace it with your county's name.

Part 2: Evaluate Information on the Wiki Page for Your County[edit | edit source]

1. Go to your county's cemeteries page in the Wiki and check existing county page for information to move over to the new page by clicking on each link.

2. Anything that is a bad link can be skipped. Bad links include those that are broken or do not have cemetery information.

3. All remaining links that still work and contain cemetery information can be used on the new page. They can be placed under the appropriate heading in the table in your sandbox.

4. Please place all links below what is already in the table, with a bullet point, the link and any explanation following. See the example below:

Part 3: Gather Additional Resources[edit | edit source]

Gather and add additional resources using the sites listed below with instructions for each one.

Check Find A Grave[edit | edit source]

Find A Grave is always being updated. Please link to Find A Grave, even when their are no results for your county.
1. Go to Find A Grave.

2. Type in the name of the county in the cemetery location search box and click search.

3. Copy the URL.

4. Go back to your sandbox and find the heading "Tombstone Transcriptions Online." Look below the heading where it says:

5. Highlight URL and paste the link you copied in place of URL. Make sure that there is a space and then the name of the link (Find A Grave) in between the open and close brackets.

4. Go back to Find A Grave.

5. Click cemeteries on the menu across the top.

6. Enter the county name in the cemetery location box.

7. Click the orange search button on the right.

8. Copy the URL.

9. Go back to your sandbox and find the heading "List of Cemeteries in the County" Look below the heading where it says:

10. Highlight "URL" and paste the link you copied in its place. Make sure that there is a space and then the name of the link (Find A Grave) in between the open and close brackets.

Check BillionGraves[edit | edit source]

BillionGraves is always being updated. Please link to BillionGraves even when their are no results for your county.
1. Go to BillionGraves.

2. Click the blue button that says "Search BillionGraves" at the upper right of the page.

3. Go to the heading that says "Where".

4. Select United Kingdom from the country pulldown menu.

5. Select England from the state pulldown menu.

6. Select the county from the county pulldown menu. Not all counties are included. If your county is not, move to the next heading, "Check Genuki". If your county is included, continue to step 7.

7. Click the orange search button.

8. Copy the URL.

9. Go back to your sandbox and find the heading "List of Cemeteries in the County" Look below the heading where it says:

10. Highlight "URL" and paste the link you copied in its place.Make sure that there is a space and then the name of the link (BillionGraves) in between the open and close brackets.

Check Genuki[edit | edit source]

1. Go to Genuki.

2. Search the alphabetical list of counties below the map and click the link for your county.

3. Find and click the link for cemeteries. If there is no link for cemeteries for your county, continue on to the heading "add the link for FamilySearch Places". If there is a link, continue to step 5.

4. Check the links in the cemeteries section, looking for any resources that inlcude cemetery transcriptions or lists of cemeteries in the county.

5. Add each resource at the bottom of the appropriate section of the table, starting with a bullet point. See example below.

Add Link for FamilySearch Places[edit | edit source]

FamilySearch Places is always being updated. Please link to FamilySearch Places, even when their are no results for your county.

1. Go to FamilySearch Places

2. Type the name of your county in the search box.

3. Select the top search result.

4. Click the blue target-shaped icon next to county name.

5. Click the link that says "add filter".

6. Type cemetery into the "place type" search box and select cemetery.

7. Copy the URL.

8. Go back to your sandbox and find the heading "List of Cemeteries in the County." Look below the heading where it says:

5. Highlight URL and paste the link you copied in place of URL. Make sure that there is a space and then the name of the link (FamilySearch Places) in between the open and close brackets.

Add Link for Interment.net[edit | edit source]

Interment.net is always being updated. Please link to Interment.net, even when their are no results for your county.

1. Go to Interment.net

2. Find the link for your county and click it. Greyed out counties do not have links. IF yours is greyed out, add the link to the Interment.net page for England.

3. Copy the URL.

4. Go back to your sandbox and find the heading "List of Cemeteries in the County." Look below the heading where it says:

5. Highlight URL and paste the link you copied in place of URL.

6. If your county is greyed out. Copy the URL to the main England page.

7. Highlight URL and paste the link you copied in place of URL.

Check the FamilySearch Catalog for Books[edit | edit source]

1. Go to the FamilySearch Catalog.

2. Search for the name of your county.

3. Click "cemeteries" in the search results. If there are no results for cemeteries, remove the heading "Books and Collections Available". If there are results, find the heading "Books and Collections Available". See example below.

4. Review the list of resources in the catalog. It may include resources in several different formats. For example: books, online books, microfilm, indexes with images, indexes and images.

5. Select no more than three resources to add to the Wiki page.

6. Add the resources, using the correct format for the type of resource. Books, online books and microfilm should be entered using the instructions for adding a bibliography list in the body of a Wiki page. Collections that are indexes with images, indexes only or images only should be added using the instructions for adding collection links.

7. Click show preview and double-check your work.

8. Click save.

9. Return to the task list and place the link to your sandbox in the link to sandbox column (E).
