What is in This Collection?[edit | edit source]

This collection contains wills held by the National Archives of Ireland. Wills to 1858 were proved in either Diocesan or Prerogative court. After 1858 proving wills was the responsibility of civil authorities.

There are several different types of documents contained in this collection. Most of the records are wills. Other records include grants of probate, administrations, and marriage license bond/grants. See Ireland Probate Records - Record Types for more information about these records.

The following information may be found in these records:

  • Name of person leaving a will
  • Name of executor
  • Address
  • Authority where the will was proved
