Guide to Uva Province family history and genealogy: birth records, marriage records, death records, census records, family history, and military records.
History[edit | edit source]
The provincial history records an 1818 uprising against the British colonial government which had been controlling the formally independent Udarata, of which Uva was a province.
The British successfully suppressed the rebellion and as retribution the entire able bodied male population of Uva region above the age of 18 years was killed while homes in the entire region were also destroyed.
This area has not yet recovered from the scorched earth policy of the British.
