Big Sioux

  • 20 Feb 1855 - Brown, MN was created by Minnesota Territory from BLUE EARTH (Minn.) which included parts of present South Dakota and Minnesota.
  • 11 Feb 1856 - Brown, MN fully organized.
  • 23 May 1857 - Brown, MN lost land to the creation of nine Minnesota Territory counties, including Big Sioux, all of which included parts of present South Dakota.
  • 1857-1858 - From 23 May 1857 to May 1858 this county was named Big Sioux County.
  • 11 May 1858 - The state of Minnesota was created and and Minnesota territory was disbanded, deleting Big Sioux to be Federal territory in South Dakota
  • 2 Nov 1889 - South Dakota officially admitted into the United States, including the land from Bix Sioux.
