Why Use Census Records[edit | edit source]

Census records can be very useful in genealogical research. It is the process of systematically counting people in a given population. Census records and the information that they contain vary from place to place.

In Fiji, the censuses contain the following information:
1. Names, sex and age
2. Occupation, profession, trade, employment
3. Nationality, birthplace, race, language, health
4. Place of abode, character of dwellings and fittings
5. Condition as to marriage, relation to head of family, issue born in marriage
