A variety of courts serve Franklin county, Tennessee. Court types include: Chancery Court, Circuit Court, County Court and the court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions. Each of these courts have some common record types such as the Minute Books; but some have records unique to their court such as the deeds and wills found in the County Court. Marriage[edit | edit source]
Marriages were not officially recorded in Franklin County until 1838, when a law was passed mandating the practice.[8] The following publication, based on early newspapers, helps to alleviate this genealogical obstacle:
