Finding a project to work on[edit | edit source]

  • There are a wide variety of projects to get involved in. Find one you enjoy or feel confident doing. Feel free to switch to a different project whenever you need a change.

Project Lists[edit | edit source]

  • Project lists show several project charts, which then show many projects you can choose from.

Here is a sample of a project chart:

Project Section Skill Level Status
Checking for Broken Links Online Record Pages Beginner completed
U.S. County Pages Beginner active

The task list[edit | edit source]

  • From the project chart, you can click on the link to the project to see detailed instructions.
  • Within the instructions, you will find a link to a Task List like this shortened sample:
Locality Link to Main Locality Page Spreadsheet Your Name Date Completed
Alabama State Page Spreadsheet Peterson

Alaska State Page Spreadsheet Bartlett
23 Dec 2014
Arizona State Page Spreadsheet Seirup
13 Jan 2015

Practice: Click on the link "U.S. County Pages" in the above project chart. Find the link for the "Task List", and click on it for practice to see a full length task list. Stay calm!

Signing up for a task[edit | edit source]

  • To sign up for a task, open the chart by clicking the section edit icon.
  • In the appropriate field, you can sign your name by typing three "tilde" marks (~) or just type your name. Save the chart by scrolling to the bottom of the edit box to click "Save".
  • All the other links you need are in the Task List page. One link leads to the page you will work on. There is a Task List page for each project.
  • In some projects, there is an additional link such as "Spreadsheet," which leads to a spreadsheet where you will record the changes you have made. Not all projects have spreadsheets.
  • When you have finished the task, return to edit the task list page to add the completion date.
  • Click on the links in the sample task list page to see how they work.
  • Practice: Click on the links in the sample task list to see how they work. Click on "Spreadsheet" and see a typical spreadsheet.

More help[edit | edit source]

  • Before your training is finished, we will spend a whole class, as a lab, practicing all these steps to find a project, sign up, and complete tasks.
  • Also, there is a weekly project meeting you can attend to ask questions and get help:The Wiki Community Projects Meeting will present and provide training on new content and maintenance projects on the Wiki.
    • Time: Wednesday 11:00 - 12:00 PM Mountain Time (1:00 - 2:00 PM Eastern)
    • WebEx ID: 0000; Join the meeting;
    • Dial-in number: Local / International: 1-801-240-9700 U.S. Toll-Free: 1-855-537-4000;
  • Finally, remember that the Wiki is very forgiving--easy to correct. If you make a mistake on a project, it can be fixed! Your mentor and other missionaries will support you as you enter the exciting new world of helping with Wiki projects!
