Texas Probate Records - FamilySearch Historical Records/Known Issues

Known Issues

Question 1

Question 1: I am having difficulty finding my ancestor’s records in Johnson County. Can you give me some help?
Answer #1: When searching for a specific record you will need to find the desired name in the index - Minute Index 1854-1945 vol. 1-3. The name will be located in the column called “Estate”. The specific name of the probate document will be listed in the column called “Orders” or “Proceedings”. Then go to the far right area of each page and get the volume and page number for the desired corresponding probate document. Sometimes the page numbers in the index are hard to read because they are in the book gutter [i.e. the area of the pages near the inner binding], and there is a dark shadow that obscures or partially obscures that information. You can try using the “invert” icon on the image viewer in FamilySearch, which flips the image from positive appearing to negative appearing and that can help to make the page number readable. Then find the waypoint of the volume listed-- the waypoints for the actual probate volumes include the volume numbers referenced in the Minute Index 1854-1945 vol 1-3. Scroll through to find the volume and then page number within the volume you are searching.
