Brief History[edit | edit source]
West Haven was taken out of Fair Haven, which had been chartered by Vermont in 1779. Apparently there had been discussion about dividing the town almost from the very beginning. The name West Haven was chosen for the new town was chartered on Oct. 20, 1792.
The two towns were required by the legislature to share one representative for thirty-one years, until West Haven was finally given its own seat in 1823.
West Haven has primarily been an agriculture community while Fair Haven has focused on industrial growth. The town population was 264 in the 2010 US Federal Census, 2010. [1][2]
